Thanksgiving Weekend

Emrick wears his cute Thanksgiving outfit, a gift from Aunt Megan, while sitting with Grandpa Ed.

Turkey! Nom nom...

The table is set. This is the first time we've used any of our wedding china.

Emrick is a little young to be eating solids, but we didn't feel right denying him all the delicious offerings. So we loaded up a big plate for him... turkey leg, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato, green beans, rolls, the works. He ate it all! And washed it down with a glass of sparkling cider. That's my boy!

The day after Thanksgiving is officially the Christmas season. So on Friday we busted out one of Emrick's pairs of Christmasy pj's. Cute!

Emrick treats Grandma to a little grin.

Emrick is a bit distressed to see Uncle Chris leave so soon!

Bye bye, Uncle Chris!

As promised, it seems that we’ve finally taught Emrick a trick, and I managed to catch one of his performances on video.  He will pretty consistently smile and say ‘oh’ if you make eye contact, smile and talk to him. He doesn’t smile too much in this clip but he does talk to me a bit.  You’ll also see that Shona has done a good job of teaching him to stick out his tongue.

Birth Announcements!

Two months and two days after Emrick was born, we FINALLY mailed out birth announcements. I popped them in the mailbox yesterday. I know you’re supposed to mail them out right away, but… well, you know! Anyway, watch for it in the mail. I am sure you are all excited to get a new piece of decoration for your refrigerators…

I found out some very disturbing news yesterday (“very disturbing” being just a slight exaggeration). Utah’s cut-off birthdate for Kindergarten enrollment is August 31. If you’re not five years old by August 31, you cannot enroll in Kindergarten until the following year!! I came across this ugly rumor on someone’s blog a few days ago, and then I did some research to confirm it. I found this site which lists the cut-off date for every state, and sure enough it’s August 31 here.

All this while I have assumed that Emrick would be off to Kindergarten in 2015, but it will be 2016 instead 🙁 . I noticed that in California you don’t need to turn five until December. That means that some kid in CA will be three months younger than Emrick, but a grade ahead of him. You realize what this means, don’t you? We’re moving back to California! 😉

A cute outfit from Grandma Cinda! "Mom's little monster" indeed!

Now, one possible advantage to Emrick starting Kindergarten a year later is that perhaps he won’t be that much littler than his classmates. He’ll be one of the oldest kids in his class rather than one of the youngest, so maybe that will offset his short stature somewhat. And he is short. Surprisingly.

So maybe we’ll stay in Utah 🙂

Emrick is two months (and one day) old today!

Okay. I intended to do a post yesterday, which was Emrick’s two-month birthday. But after his morning appointment with the pediatrician, I got a massive migraine that never quite left me (until this morning). I barely managed to do the stuff I HAD to do, let alone something fun, like posting adorable pics of the adorable Emrick.

Anyway, before the appointment, Emrick was washed, dressed, and photographed for your pleasure. I love this outfit he is wearing. Little did I know, when my mom and I bought this little cardigan in June, that a few months later someone else would give us a onesie that was a perfect match for it! Darling!

Marcus thinks Emrick is “dressed like an old man” here. Tell him he’s wrong!

Happy Two-Month Birthday, Emrick! We love you!

Emrick the Explorer, Part II

As promised, here are more impossibly cute pictures of Emrick. As it so happens, one of his parental units DOES appear in some of these photos (as Dad requested in his comment on the previous installment). Guess which one! 😉

Also, the bathtub pics feature Emrick only. Sorry to disappoint!

Before putting Emrick in his clean, new rocket pj's, we gave him a good bath in the laundry room sink

Recognize that pointy ear?

Don't worry. We don't use that Joy dish detergent on Emrick! ... We use ammonia and a Brillo pad.

I can't help but be reminded of Mother Teresa by this pic.

... a BABY Mother Teresa...

Blurry, but still cute.

This pic cracks us up. The hair in back really does all grow toward the side like that. All I did was smooth it with a brush.

Oh, sweetie.

A kiss from a parental unit! Yes, this kid has parents!

Awww.

Emrick the Explorer, Part I

We took a lot of pictures last night of Emrick wearing his new rocket ship pajamas. There were so many pics that turned out soooooooooooooo cute that I am going to have to make this post a two-parter. Part I here really shows off Emrick’s increasingly expressive face. I didn’t caption these because his looks speak for themselves!

Part II will be posted later this week and will feature bathtub pics. We’ll post pics of Emrick, too.
