Birth Announcements!

Two months and two days after Emrick was born, we FINALLY mailed out birth announcements. I popped them in the mailbox yesterday. I know you’re supposed to mail them out right away, but… well, you know! Anyway, watch for it in the mail. I am sure you are all excited to get a new piece of decoration for your refrigerators…

I found out some very disturbing news yesterday (“very disturbing” being just a slight exaggeration). Utah’s cut-off birthdate for Kindergarten enrollment is August 31. If you’re not five years old by August 31, you cannot enroll in Kindergarten until the following year!! I came across this ugly rumor on someone’s blog a few days ago, and then I did some research to confirm it. I found this site which lists the cut-off date for every state, and sure enough it’s August 31 here.

All this while I have assumed that Emrick would be off to Kindergarten in 2015, but it will be 2016 instead 🙁 . I noticed that in California you don’t need to turn five until December. That means that some kid in CA will be three months younger than Emrick, but a grade ahead of him. You realize what this means, don’t you? We’re moving back to California! 😉

A cute outfit from Grandma Cinda! "Mom's little monster" indeed!

Now, one possible advantage to Emrick starting Kindergarten a year later is that perhaps he won’t be that much littler than his classmates. He’ll be one of the oldest kids in his class rather than one of the youngest, so maybe that will offset his short stature somewhat. And he is short. Surprisingly.

So maybe we’ll stay in Utah 🙂

I swear he is too cute. I say look to his first birthday and forget about kindergarten…for now. I am sure he will be some insanely advanced kid and go to a special school where he will be in college at age six anyway!

OK, Noone else is saying it, so I guess I have to. Emerick’s range of facial expression seems to range mostly from bewildered to irritated; from which I deduce you guys have not taken him to Disney yet. Let’s get on that, mmmmmK?

Hey, wouldn’t you be bewildered and irritated if you had no privacy, and a mom who was always sticking a camera in your face?

Actually, Emrick has been smiling regularly for almost three weeks now! I just don’t usually manage to capture it on camera, I guess because most of his smiling happens when we have play time on the floor, or when I coo at him after changing his diaper. Maybe I need to start bringing a camera along to those events.

But there is a pic of him smiling in the “Explorer, Part I” post. Did you not see this??!!

The last pic is my fav. Even my kids still look sweet and beautiful in that state.

He is just the cutest thing no matter what his facial expressions are. I can’t wait to see him and pinch is cute little chubby cheecks. Speaking of Disney, I think his cousin needs to go to disney with him! Don’t you dare move back to CA, you are fine right there in Utah.

Marcus’ birthday is in Nov. and was one of the oldest in his class also…and one of the most popular…so you don’t have anything to worry about..being as cute as he is, he’ll have no problem no matter what class he’s in!
