Fresh from a Bath

I just gave Emrick a bath. He is so extra delicious when he is newly clean and smells like soapy flowers.

If only this blog were scratch n sniff!

Hot off the Press!

I just took these pictures of Emrick a few minutes ago. It’s almost bedtime, and Emrick has been hanging out on the futon while Marcus and I geek out on our computers (the computers and futon are now in the same room, for those of you who have been to our house and might be afraid that we left Emrick alone to chill on an elevated surface). Anyway, he started showing off his darling, chubby baby legs, and I just had to take some pictures!

That's Emrick's slobber on the pillow in the background.

This is actually Emrick trying to teethe on the pillow.

We think Emrick may be on the verge of finally sprouting a tooth. He chomps HARD on anything that he can get in his mouth, including mommy’s fingers and hair. On top of that, he has been a little more fussy than usual the past couple of days, and last night it took him several hours to settle down after being put to bed. In fact, he didn’t settle for any kind of long stretch until shortly after a dose of Tylenol, administered at 3:30 AM or so, which means it was probably pain keeping him up. Anyway, I am SO EXCITED to see how tonight is going to go!

Anyone want to make a prediction for when that first tooth breaks through?

Loony Toons

Marcus’ camera has a “cartoon” setting, so we had some fun taking pictures with it. It’s interesting to see how the rosiness of Emrick’s cheeks shows up even in cartoon mode, especially in the third and fourth pics below. He’s sooo precious! And quite the laugher and squealer now, too!

Emrick is still sleeping on Marcus’ homemade mattress w/harness. He’s been sleeping better than he has since early December, so it’s working great. I try to give him lots of tummy time during the day, so that he can perfect his rolling and maybe some day, if left to his own devices, he will NOT try to sleep on his face anymore. In the meantime, his mattress keeps him harnessed at the waist (the same way his Fisher Price rocker does) to keep him from rolling his face into the mattress. The restricted mobility makes him fall asleep much faster, and for a longer period, than when he is free ranging the crib. It’s like when we swaddled him, only now his arms are free. Even though we’re all sleeping well, I don’t want to have to keep it up with this homemade mattress thing for more than another month or so. It doesn’t seem good to let him be dependent on it. I mean, what if he still needs it when he’s 5? Or 16? Or 31? AAAHHHHHH!!! I’ll talk to the doctor about it at his 6 month check up, which is scheduled for March 22.

Marcus is NOT sporting an Amish-style beard in reality! For some reason the cartoon setting really picked up on the shadows. It is nonetheless hilarious, though, as is that angelic glow in the background!

It’s Hammer Time!

A Peck of Pookie Pictures

Pookie Bear is Five Months Old Today!

Emrick weighs about 15 lbs, 11 oz. As of last night, and according to the graph board I bought a month ago, he is 23.5 inches long now. Short.

He still rolls over from his back to his belly like a champ. But he has yet to perfect rolling back the other way.

He still tries to sleep with his face in the mattress, and figured out how to do that in the co-sleeper. So now, Marcus has fashioned a homemade mattress with a harness to keep Emrick from doing just that. And that mattress sits on top of the crib mattress. We’re all sleeping a little better now.

He is still a Pookie Bear.

Isn’t he fabulous?

We love you, Pooks!
