On July 6, I did a post about Holly’s 10-month birthday, and in it I said that she was not quite walking yet. So what did she do? She took her first independent steps the very next day! We had tried once or twice before to get her to do some practice walking — going back and forth between me and Marcus — like we did with Emrick. But she kept wanting to hold onto our hands, and just wasn’t as interested in it as Emrick had been, which was fine. We weren’t in a hurry for her to walk, but since Emrick had enjoyed those early “practice” steps so much, we thought Holly might too.
Then on the evening of the 7th, Holly picked up a rice krispie treat wrapper leftover form Emrick’s kid’s meal, and while she happened to have it in her hand, Marcus and I tried to get her to walk between us again, and she did it! We tried the walking both with and without having her hold an object in her hand, and she generally seemed to do better when she could hold something. We think it gave her the feeling that she was hanging onto something for balance, which made her brave enough to walk without trying to hold our hands.
Walking is still not her primary means of getting around, of course. But she loves to practice, as this video shows. It’s also pretty funny the way she keeps looking at the camera here… at least Marcus and I think so. Enjoy!
And there you go.
