Draper Fire

There was a fire this week a few miles from our place, not close enough for us to worry, but the smoke was visible and there was a lot of it.  It started on some mountains near the hills we live on, near the opposite side of the hills from our place. The mountains are very steep and border Salt Lake suburbs Draper and Sandy, where they apparently evacuated homes along the bench. Everyone at work was talking about it because huge amounts of smoke rose over the hills right behind our facility (which is also located on the side of the hills near where we live), giving the impression that the entire Salt Lake valley was on fire.

We saw the burned mountain later that evening when we went over the hill to do some grocery shopping. We could still see the flames, though much of the smoke had died down, and I was surprised at just how much of the mountain had been charred in a single afternoon.

Now that the fire is pretty much contained they’re worried about mudslides this weekend with the large amounts of rain that are forecast.
