Like most babies, she&#8217;s been doing the sleeping\/half-sleeping smile since the day she was born, but on Friday the 18th, when she was exactly six weeks old, she gave me what was her first, unmistakable, fully awake &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/parenting\/baby\/babys-first-social-smile\">social smile<\/a>&#8220;. We were on the sofa together and she had been looking me square in the eye, seemingly on the verge of a grin. So I made a funny face at her along with a funny noise, and sure enough, a big wide smile broke across her face.
