While visiting Grandma and Grandpa Morgan, Emrick came up with a game. I’m not sure exactly how it began, but we had at one point filled his sippy cup with Gatorade, calling it juice. After that, Emrick and Grandpa developed a little game where Emrick would say “not juice” (pointing at his cup), Grandpa would repeat “that’s not juice!”, and then Emrick would say what it really was (ice water, milk, etc). Gradually, it developed into pointing at things that nobody would ever mistake for juice, and having Emrick clarify for you that these things were in fact not juice.<\/p>\n
Emrick: ‘s not juice<\/p>\n
us: that’s not juice!<\/p>\n
Emrick : peas<\/p>\n
Well, we got home from Christmas vacation, a few weeks went by, and one evening we were coming home in the van when we heard Emrick speak up.<\/p>\n
” ‘s not juice”<\/p>\n
Niether I nor Shona could see what he was pointing at, but we went on with the reply, “that’s not juice!”.<\/p>\n
He responded, “house”.<\/p>\n
Then again, ” ‘s not juice”, followed by us confirming, “that’s not juice!”<\/p>\n
The reply, “outside”.<\/p>\n
… oh really? Outside is not juice? \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Tonight was my turn to take Emrick up to bed. \u00a0The current routine is that he turns off the lights downstairs, we carry him up, brush his teeth, put his pajamas on, and read some books before going to bed. \u00a0On our way up, I began telling him that we needed to brush his teeth to get the food off of them. \u00a0I listed off various things he had eaten throughout the day.<\/p>\n
Me: “We need to get those hot dogs out of your teeth”<\/p>\n
Emrick: “Corn dog?”<\/p>\n
Me: “Corn BREAD, we had corn bread with dinner. Yes we need to get that out of your teeth too.”<\/p>\n
Emrick: “Pizza?”<\/p>\n
Me: “no, we had pizza on Friday, we already brushed that out of your teeth”<\/p>\n
Then I begin to brush.<\/p>\n
Emrick: “Get ice water out”<\/p>\n
Me: “yes, let’s get that ice water out of your teeth!”<\/p>\n
